About Jerrold E. Bartholomew

My name is Jerrold Bartholomew and I am the principal and founder of Priority Elder Law and Estate Planning, PLC. My hope is that this blog will be a resource to those trying to navigate long-term care options in Michigan, as well as to other attorneys, financial planners and health care providers. Very simply, my law practice is devoted to helping seniors and their families cope with the financial and legal problems particular to aging and disability.

I practice in the northern Metro-Detroit area, providing house-calls from Southfield to Imlay City to Flint. I am also often in the area of Houghton Lake and with some scheduling, I am happy to assist clients throughout the lower peninsula.

As an elder law attorney, it is my job to help seniors with all legal challenges particular to their age group and circumstances. I do have extensive experience in helping seniors to maximize their resources, retain their independence as long as possible, and protect assets from the cost of long-term care. These goals can be accomplished through advanced estate planning as well as through the probate court system. I can also help families develop a care plan at the first sign of declining health to help avoid both the stress of crisis management and the entanglements of Medicaid law while at the same providing the best quality of life and medical care available. Finally, I also work in the areas of estate and trust administration.

In addition to state and local bar associations, I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the National Lawyers Association. I am dedicated to trying to give seniors the information they need to make sound decisions and reduce their chances of being vulnerable to those who would take advantage of them. I regard myself as an advocate for the disabled, particularly those requiring long-term medical care.

My wife Jen and I have seven terrific children, as well as a wonderful Catholic parish in which to raise them. The rest of my time is filled with reading, a bit of clay target shooting, Mexican and Italian food, epic poetry, getting to know local seniors, and trying to work the energy out of our Golden Retriever and Springer Spaniel (both part-time staff at our offices). In addition, I serve as the Headmaster of St. Benedict Classical Homeschool Program, where I also teach Latin, Composition, Poetry, Logic and Grammar two mornings each week. Teaching, thankfully, keeps me balanced and reminds me how much life offers outside of legal issues.

If you have a question regarding your or your family member’s elder care circumstances, please email to reach me directly. You can also reach me by telephone toll-free at our offices at 800.475.1729. I will gladly answer your legal questions and give you honest feedback on your situation. If your question is not of a legal nature, I will do my best to find the answers for you or direct you to someone who can.
